How to protect your privacy (password and account access)?
You have an influence on the safety of your Allegro account. Follow the tips below for a safer use of the website.
The safety of buyers and sellers when shopping online is a priority for Allegro. That's why we do our best to provide you with a hassle-free platform ensuring that you can find everything you are looking for as well as making your purchase convenient, fast and, above all, safe. However, remember that the security of your account also depends largely on you. To make it easier for you, we have prepared a special "security" section, which you can see after logging in, in the "My account" panel:
If you use the first method, remember these 3 simple rules :
The “logging in and password" section will give you an overview of the devices currently logged into your account and a convenient way to log them out in case one of them looks dubious to you. Nevertheless, remember to change your password immediately in such an event to prevent a similar situation in the future.
In this section, you will also see when you last changed your password and you will be able to change it again if need be:
It’s worth taking a look at this section from time to time. Even if no one has got hold of your password, there may be a device you don’t own (any more) – e.g. a laptop you have given to a family member.
The so-called two-factor authentication is an extremely effective mechanism for increasing the security of your account. After you enter the correct login and password, the system will additionally ask you for a one-time 6-digit code. Depending on your preferences, it will be delivered via SMS or generated using a special authenticator app that you can download from official stores, i.e. AppStore and Google Play. Even if someone knows your account password, they won’t be able to log into the Allegro platform without access to your phone.
Arming your account with an extra level of protection is extremely easy. After you click on the "Enable" button, the system will ask you to enter the phone number to which the one-time SMS codes are to be delivered:
You will then receive a one-time SMS code with which you enable the two-factor authentication on your account. It’s as simple as that. From now on, after you enter your login and password, the system will ask you to also enter a one-time code. If you are logging in using your computer, it’s a good idea – for your convenience – to mark your device as trusted. This will ensure that the system won’t ask you to enter additional codes next time you log in with this device.
You may have heard of phishing, a common method used by scammers to steal your login details. This threat doesn’t only concern Allegro customers, but every Internet user. It’s therefore extremely important to make sure that you always enter your login, password or one-time code on the right website. Don’t be taken in by the closed padlock symbol next to the web address. Check carefully that the website address is "allegro.pl" and that there are no typos or extra dots in it.
